Overview

Building Futures is both a program that helps prepare low income adults in urban areas for rewarding careers in the commercial construction and an initiative that partners to expand entry-level training opportunities in the trades through proven apprenticeship programs.

Our program consists of a multi-week, comprehensive evaluation and preparation process to help participants determine their interest and readiness for entering a construction apprenticeship program. Building Futures does not provide advanced training in specific construction trades skills. Rather, our training component reflects the basic skills needed in all construction trades in addition to career exploration, coursework and other supports we provide through our program.

Once placed in a quality apprenticeship program, our graduates gain on-the-job training, while earning good salaries and receiving benefits, and are provided continued support services from us.

As an initiative, Building Futures is focused on the construction sector and how this industry will meet the growing need for a highly trained and skilled workforce. We partner with representatives from across the industry to increase utilization of apprenticeship training and to increase access to training for low income residents of urban communities Rhode Island.
