Brown University invests in Rhode Islanders through workforce grants

Building Futures is proud to be the recipient of one of two inaugural grants Brown, focused on funding RI’s construction and education workforce. The grant funding will support a contractor incentive program; an apprenticeship readiness program for incarcerated individuals to support community reintegration and careers in the building trades; and partnerships with private employers to create new apprenticeship programs that expand the proven workforce development model into other sectors.

“We are incredibly grateful for this next chapter in Brown’s commitment, which allows us to expand opportunities for rewarding careers with family-supporting wages for residents of Providence and Rhode Island,”

– Andrew Cortés, President & CEO, Building Futures

Registered Apprenticeship is the workforce model that creates economic opportunity and raises wages for workers, helps employers meet their needs, and builds pipelines for people to enter industries facing workforce shortages. It is good for Rhode Island and our communities.

Thank you, Brown University. This investment in Registered Apprenticeship is an investment in Rhode Island workers across every industry. Congratulations also to Community College of Rhode Island on their grant to greatly expand the number of early childhood educators in the Providence Public Schools. Together, these two grants will impact our communities for decades to come.
